Lesson Outline
Luke finished working on the reading passage he began yesterday. He listened attentively but exhibited some intentionally oppositional answers when it came time to answer the questions. Luke clearly intentionally answered the first 4 multiple-choice questions incorrectly. He KNEW the answers but giggled as he circled the wrong answers in blue crayon and gave himself an A+ on the paper. When explained how his decision to answer incorrectly would reflect poorly when reviewing his performance in school, he was permitted to answer again, this time correctly. And as predicted, this time, his answers were all correct. He also answered all the open-ended questions correctly after the importance of demonstrating his true competence was emphasized, and when the consequences of pretending that he does not know answers was explained. Luke was hesitant to write down his answers but when prompted, he wrote some down. He did very well on the reading exercise about maps and got 8 out of 8 of the multiple-choice and open-ended questions correct. We finished our session reading for enjoyment, and Luke participated in a guided reading exercise, and demonstrated good comprehension by responding to queries about content correctly.
