I first reviewed the steps or method to follow when interpreting a poem. We then discussed Donne's Sonnet 14 ,and the poet's use of stark juxtaposition to convey the speaker's desperate plea to God to free him from temptation. We noted also the use of poetic "apostrophe" and metaphor. Next, we continued our study of Gray's "Elegy" ,specifically focusing on the shifts of focus during the poem evidenced by the use of imagery. We further discussed the identity of the speaker and poem's general subject matter, death's inevitability to rich and poor alike.
