Lesson Outline
I provided instruction on analyzing structure, diction, and symbolism in Blake's poem ,"The Sick Rose." As we explored how symbolic interpretation can be subjective, we discussed various interpretations of the "sick rose" and the worm that destroys life. Next, we began our study of "Thanatopsis" by comparing the poet's message on death to Gray's perception of death in Gray's "Elegy." Joshua discussed poetic techniques in the first stanzas and after I provided instruction on paraphrasing , we together identified the subject of the first sentence and the antecedents to the pronouns in the first stanza.
