Discuss natural occurring nuclear transmutations, and introduce induced transmutations. Outline how and why induced transmutations will involve the bombardment of a nucleus by either a neutron or a high energy alpha or gamma particle. Discuss Rutherford's initial work from 1919 which transmitted a nitrogen isotope 14 into hydrogen and oxygen. Write the nuclear formula and have Ben determine the products formed and the nuclear notation.
