Lesson Topic
Unit 5 poetry
Lesson Outline
Today we studied how personification and metaphor convey the poet's perspective. We first discussed the extended metaphor used in Frost's "Road not Taken" noting how each stanza employs the metaphor of a road representing how all choices , great and small, reverberate and impact one's life. We then studied Emily Dickenson's use of personification. In class Joshua worked on drafting a thesis and first paragraph describing how personification and mood convey the poet's perspective on death. We worked on revisions to create a defensible literary interpretation.
