We studied how structure conveys meaning by comparing the closed or traditional structure of Frost's "Stopping by a Woods" with Whitman's "I hear America Singing." Joshua did well in recognizing how Whitman's structure creates a flowing unity representing his view of Americans as individuals yet also part of a unified whole.
