Unit 5 poetry
Lesson Outline
We studied how allusion and metaphor function to create meaning by analyzing Sandberg's poem "Fog" and Wordsworth's "The World is too much with Us." In the Wordsworth poem, we discussed how the references to mythological gods serves to contrast modern society's disregard for the spiritual aspects of nature with the reverence for Nature in mythology. In discussing "Fog" Joshua did well noting how the metaphor comparing fog to a cat is also symbolic and conveys how disorientation or depression can silently creep up on a person but just as stealthily evaporate.
