Jason completed a daily review answering questions on number patterns, counting coins, reading number words, and finding the missing parts of an equation. Then, he continued to answer questions from the unit review on using subtraction strategies to subtract within 100. Strategies included subtracting tens and ones on a hundreds chart, counting back or up on an open numbers line, breaking apart numbers into tens and ones, and using compensation. While working, Jason was encouraged to recognize the different ways to subtract 2-digit numbers and that certain strategies are more suitable to solve a problem than others.
