We first completed a vocabulary exercise based on the final chapter of the novel. We discussed words unfamiliar to David such as "germane, irresolution, and covert." Next, we studied a passage from the text wherein Kino again studies ants. We discussed the ant metaphor which appeared earlier in the novel and the novel's illustration of man's insignificance. Last, we studied a second passage from the novel and explored how the promise of the pearl-the illusion-does not match the reality. David completed questions in writing on these two passages.
