Lesson Topic
Chemistry 2. Molar mass and mole.
Lesson Outline
Complete the problem from Wed. "Determining the molar mass of a compound". Arrive at the term gram formula mass. Record the GFM arrived at and elicit that when the GFM is massed out in grams, this represents a mass of one mole. Elicit from Avogadro's work, the number of molecules present in one mole of this substance (acetic acid). Discuss the organic analgesic aspirin. Work through a series of steps to determine the molar mass of aspirin and how many grams would be present in 0.509 moles of aspirin? Set up an "if-then" equation for Ben to more easily use.
