Lesson Topic
Density determinations
Lesson Outline
Using density and volume to determine mass. Determine the volume of a mass of aluminum using the water displacement method. Record the initial volume of water and the final volume of water. Calculate the volume of the aluminum. From a table in the textbook, research the density of aluminum and record the density. Re-arrange the given formula, D=M/V in order to determine the mass. M=V x D. Record the determined mass. Check your answer against the given density of aluminum by substituting the calculated mass and volume into the density formula and compare the answer to the listed density. Work two other practice problems.
