Mongol Empire : Peak extent in late 1200's and decline/end in late 1300's A.D. Reasons for Mongol Empire breakup into Khanates. Rise of trade networks in the Indian Ocean. "Sea Roads" known as the maritime "Silk Road". Mongol Empire was too difficult to manage/govern due to wide variations in culture and different languages/religions. Fragmentation of the Empire into "khanates" or smaller regions. Civil war ultimately brought the demise of the Mongol Empire in 14th Century.
