Unit 3 Earth’s Changing Landscape
Lesson Outline
Lesson 1 Slow Changes to Earth’s Landscape – We learned about weathering and erosion. Mechanical weathering occurs when water, wind, and other physical forces wear away rock. Temperature can change the water to ice inside the cracks of rocks causing them to split apart. Chemical weathering occurs when chemicals such as acid rain transform rock into new compounds. Mechanical weathering accelerates chemical weathering because it increases the surface area of the exposed rock.
