Lesson Outline
Patrick read numerous word problem stories about joining together. He needed guidance with some of the words, but has strong "what makes sense" clues to help him word attack as he reads. He grasped the concept of what was being asked and what he needed to do in order to solve it. He drew pictures to represent what was happening. When it was time to add, he practiced starting with the larger number of the two and then counting on. This is a much more efficient way of adding, and he seems to enjoy it.
