Lesson Outline
Patrick was unfamiliar with the calendar, so we've been working on tracking the number of days in a given month (30 or 31), which days are considered school days/weekends, and how to know what day of the week a new month will start on based on the last day of the previous month. He is doing great with time on the clock and counting dimes, nickels, and pennies together. He played "Fly Swatter" on the board to review his double fact recall and speed. I said a fact aloud, and Patrick swatted the sum to the fact in under 5 seconds, and then removed it. He knew most of these. He took a pop quiz on his doubles facts and knew 10/11 in just under 2 minutes. I changed the order of the facts and re-timed him. He still received 10/11 but interchanged one he answered correctly last time. He practiced using double facts to solve doubles plus one fact flash cards. If he knows 4+4=8, then 4+5=9. I was impressed that he could organize the two steps it took in his mind, to do this mentally. He completed lesson 6.3 where he wrote written responses to many doubles plus one facts and answered word problems based on doubles plus one facts. Please study his double plus one flash cards at home, as he will have a pop quiz on those next week. Great job, today!
