Adding and Subtracting to 10
Lesson Outline
Patrick seems overwhelmed about the idea of subtracting. We worked with our addition facts to 10 with Make a Number and then practicing with our strategies. Patrick seems less confident and is heavily reliant on the number line even in addition. Our goal is for Patrick to be able to identify the largest number and then count on or count back to add or subtract without the number line, so we will continue to practice before moving on.

I will continue to work slowly with Patrick. I truly believe he needs to fully master concepts before moving on so he can feel capable and successful. He was feeling and doing good with addition until we started exploring subtraction. Now he is struggling with both:(
