Lesson Topic
Intro to Cause and Effect
Lesson Outline
Patrick brought Diary of a Wimpy Kid for a read aloud. After reading we discussed cause and effect relationships and then I referred to several examples from the read aloud. I would identify the effect and Patrick would determine the effect. Next I introduced cause and effect signal words if, then, so and because. Then I had Patrick read these words aloud. Will continue to practice cause and because. We are also still working on the sight word they. Patrick read Little Loon flawlessly (except for the word they). I identified three cause and effect relationships in his story and Patrick successfully determined the cause or effect when asked. We spent the rest of our time together working in his Lacrosse project. Patrick has been very resistant to any type of writing at all. He enjoys researching through pictures, but has a hard time relaying information in writing.

Lesson Comments
Patrick's resistance to writing is an obstacle in my overall language instruction. I am not sure why he is so unwilling to write. His reading and math have both improved tremendously. Somehow he needs open up to writing. I know Miss Dee and I have both done fun writing projects with him, but they do not seem to change his motivation:( From what I can see this is more due to a won't than a can't situation.
