Lesson Outline
This session was dedicated to investigating the structure of the ear and the eye. I had Devon draw an ear, with the canal, the drum, hammer, anvil, stirrup and cochlea. While she drew each structure, we discussed how sound waves travel into the ear, and strike the drum, which moves the hammer to hit the anvil, that moves the stirrup, that in turn vibrates hairs inside the cochlea. We watched a video that illustrated how this process works, and several videos of individuals that were able to hear for the first time, after getting a cochlea implant. We then examined the parts of the eye, and how light waves enter into the eye, and stimulates the rods and cones. Devon was interested and asked many insightful questions (no pun intended).
