At the outset, Will asked a question about mercantilism, which I answered and made sure he understood. The Chapter 1 quiz was then administered. Following completion of the quiz, we began consideration of Chapter 2, focusing on the Jamestown colony, the importance of tobacco as a cash crop, the "Headrights" system of land ownership as an inducement to colonists, and the eventual importation of women into the hitherto all-male colony. Judie stopped in briefly to inform Will that he would be moved to a new, larger room, as he has decided to continue at our school through graduation. Judie also indicated that I would be teaching US History to Will for 36, rather than only 18, weeks. Winners all around.
