Chapter 2
Lesson Outline
I began by returning to Will his graded Chapter 1 quiz (28/30) and going over it with him. We then took up our discussion of Chapter 2, focusing today on the major differences between the early colonies, the particularly religious motivation of Puritans in Massachusetts, the growth of proprietary colonies, the importance of the Navigation Acts, and the concept of the "middle ground" as a way to view the regions inhabited by the native Americans, settled by the English, in the seventeenth century. This concept is of fairly recent historiographical origin. Will was given his choice of taking the Chapter 2 quiz tomorrow or holding off until next week, by which time we will be well into Chapter 3. He chose tomorrow.
