Session Date
Lesson Topic
Chapter 9
Lesson Outline
Today's session was divided into two segments, consistent with my recent discussion with Johanna: a segment devoted to Will's research paper and a segment devoted to Chapter 9. Will did not succeed in obtaining a library card over the past weekend, saying that the library told him that, because he is not yet 18 years of age, a parent needs to accompany him at the time of making application. Will said that he would return to the library today with his father to obtain the card. I showed him how to research the Florida and Virginia state archives online and also how to cite books and sources found on the internet. As to Chapter 9, we discussed the expansion of voting for white males only and other elements of "democracy," as well as the sad and shameful forced removal of native Americans to the West, during the presidency of Andrew Jackson.
