I started this lesson with a little quiz. I gave Bobby a blank sheet of paper and asked him to write down as many of the fifty states as he can remember without using a map or globe. He came up with 23 of them. Then we looked in his textbook at a list of all of the states to see which ones he missed. Bobby enjoyed this activity. Next, Bobby and I read through chapter 3 sections 1-3 of his textbook. He learned about the different levels of elevation and we used his globe to feel which parts of the United States have mountains and hills, and which parts are flat. Then we learned about Florida and the effects of hurricane Andrew in 1992.
