Lesson Outline
Analise began her session discussing Read Across America Week which honors Dr. Seuss' birthday. We looked a several Dr. Seuss books and discussed his job as an author and illustrator. Next, Analise watched a Brainpop Jr. video about the life and accomplishments of Dr. Seuss. In the video, Annie & Moby talked about Dr. Seuss' characters, writing style, and his life in general. Next, we read Green Eggs and Ham. I would save the last rhyming word of the paragraph for Analise to say and she loved being involved in the reading process. She especially liked saying Sam-I-Am's name and "I will not eat them anywhere!" After reading and discussing the story, Analise completed a beginning letter sound activity. She had green egg yolks with lowercase letters written on them and egg whites with pictures. Analise went through the yolks, identified the letter and letter sounds, and then hunted for the matching egg white picture that began with that sound. For example, she would say the name of the letter, b, the sound it makes, "buh," and then locate the picture that began with "buh" like butterfly. She did an outstanding job identifying the beginning letter sounds and locating the pictures. Analise ended the session listening to another Dr. Seuss favorite, Ten Apples Up On Top.
