Lesson Topic
Area of common shapes
Lesson Outline
Oliver and I moved on to discuss the way to calculate area for some basic shapes including parallelograms and triangles. This involves multiplication of the base and the height, and Oliver used his skills to multiply both whole number and decimal numbers to find area. I showed Oliver the basic reason why a triangle's area is only half of the multiple of base and height. Oliver was able to independently solve a number of problems related to finding area, and three homework worksheets were given to him.
