Trail of Tears: As the United States grew in land many settlers also came. Indians have lived on the land for centuries and fought with the settlers killing many from both sides. President Jackson with Congress passed The Indian Removal Act of 1830. Moving all Indians west of the Mississippi. The Cherokees took the battle to court and won. The Cherokees and all other tribes were moved anyway. This broke the spirit of the Indians as they were forced from their homeland. The journey was long and conditions were bad causing many Indians to die. The Trail of Tears ended in 1839. The United States succeeded in taking the land for its own. Great job Marina, she wrote a paper on this topic.
