War of 1812: The United States declared war on June 18, 1812 against the British. British forces were helping American Indians fight the settlers in the Northwest. After 2 years both sides realized no one was winning or gaining much of anything. The British agreed to end the war. A peace treaty was signed in Ghent, Russia on December 24, 1814.
