Today, I introduced Analise to the concept of using a number line to add or subtract. This allows her to visualize numbers for counting and ordering and to see the physical position of a number linking patterns and relationships. Analise learned to use the number line by always moving to the right for addition and by always moving to the left for subtraction. We worked on a worksheet with addition of 1, 2, and 3 and subtraction of 1, 2, and 3. We used the number line by placing her pencil on the first number of the problem then looping to the right(addition) or left(subtraction) depending on the problem. We will continue to practice the number line concept this week.
