Today Loulie began with a review of her five senses. She did an activity where we popped some popcorn and she had to use each sense to describe it. First, she watched the popcorn pop and she observed what was happening. As it was popping, she listened and described what she was hearing. As it popped more she began to smell it and described what she was smelling. When it was done, she felt a piece and described what it felt like and then ate some popcorn and described its taste. She drew a picture of her oberservations under each sense and I wrote her observations down next to her pictures. After that, we went outside and did a leaf collection. We used leaves and Legos to do measuring, sorting, comparing, and observing activities. She measured the leaves and Legos first with paper clips and then with a ruler. We discussed how objects can be the same in some ways but different in others and she compared them by their color and shape, and she sorted leaves in groups based on their size and color. She built a boat with the Legos and we observed the boat using the five senses. We used construction paper and labeled each with a science skill. She glued the leaves she had compared, sorted, and measured to each piece of paper.
