Lesson Topic
Causes of World War I
Lesson Outline
Gwendolyn and I reviewed vocabulary and major concepts and ideas discussed in our last class. She completed a latitude and longitude activity perfectly and she began identifying states based on shape and location. We explored the causes of World War I today - discussing and defining terms - militarism, nationalism, alliances, and imperialism. We looked at History.com to learn of new technology used in the war. We also looked to BrainPop for a great summary of The Great War. Gwendolyn and I discussed reasons behind the U.S.'s late entry into the war, the sinking of the Lucitania and the Zimmerman telegram. She understood the policy of isolationism on the part of President Woodrow Wilson. Finally, we looked at an image of the new sculpture on Wall Street, a little girl facing off a big bull. We discussed the meaning of this in light of the new International Women's Day.
