Lesson Topic
Sacagawea, Lewis and Clark
Lesson Outline
Gracyn and I looked at "African Americans of Character" and watched a short BrainPopJr. video about Harriet Tubman and about Rosa Parks. We reviewed landforms and learned new geographical terms with a matching activity, pairing pictures with definitions. We did the same with bodies of water and flashcards, which Gracyn can color when she returns. These are a great way to review. We had a conversation using geographical terms to describe her location and mine. I showed her maps to reinforce this. We discussed the caterpillar that hatched and watched the animated film of Eric Carle's "The Very Hungry Caterpillar". We can expand upon this activity as well when she returns. We discussed states, capitals and location. We began learning about the true story of Sacagawea and Lewis and Clark's expedition by following her textbook. This lesson also offers great opportunities to discuss civics, geography and migration.
