Lesson Topic
American Symbols / Time for Kids - Cool Inventions
Lesson Outline
This morning we began by reviewing the calendar. We continued our discussion of American Symbols by completing his packet underway. Today we added the White House. We went on the computer and Danny searched "White House" on the internet by copying my written words. Once we found the pictures, he selected his favorite and I directed him in printing it out. He did an awesome job using the computer. We added it to the page and he wrote "I see" in front of the words "the White House". Next, we went through his Florida Studies Weekly packet on American Monuments. We learned that monuments honor people. We saw the Lincoln Memorial, White House, and Mount Rushmore. We also learned that Ponce de Leon was a Spanish explorer. We worked on the included activity page which tasked us analyzing and drawing patterns. He completed the follow up two-choice assessment and scored 5/5! We reviewed the cardinal directions. He found all 4 named, but he could not name them for me to find. Finally, we finished with an issue of Time for Kids on "Cool Inventions". We learned about five neat inventions including a robot arm for disabled children and a Fitbit type device created by UNICEF that sends food to needy children as earned through American children exercising. We also read about Ben Franklin exploring electricity in lightning.
