Lesson Topic
American Symbols / Needs and Wants
Lesson Outline
This morning Danny and I wrapped up our studies of American Symbols. We reviewed our FL Studies Weekly packet entitled "Celebrate America". We reviewed that symbols are something that stand for something else. We also reviewed that Rosa Parks wanted equality for African-Americans. Danny scored a 5/5 on our follow up retest. For his final assessment, he sorted 12 pictures to find the 8 correct American Symbols pictures and 4 incorrect pictures. He sorted them all correctly! Next, we began our next unit of our FL Studies Weekly with our packet on "Needs and Wants". We discussed that needs are the things that we must have to live, while wants are things we'd like to have. We sorted nine pictures into want vs. need. These included items such as food, water, soda, a football, and an iPhone. Danny first cut the nine circular shaped pictures providing for a nice fine motor task. He then had to look at the starting letter of "want" and "need" to determine on which page to paste the picture. We discussed the items and sorted them together. We then began labeling each picture by Danny copying my written words. We will complete this task tomorrow. We also introduced writing the date on his papers (4-11-17); we will continue practicing this on all his tasks.
