Gwendolyn and I continued to learn about the Cold War. Gwendolyn understands the concept of containment and the Truman Doctrine. We discussed what a communist government is and how the two World superpowers competed during the Cold War, the arms race and the space race. We read about the Cuban Missile Crisis. We looked to several illustrations I have saved on Pinterest - the Cold War timeline, United Nations, and American Wars. We also discussed "oppression" and reasons behind our entry into the Korean War. We read together a Newsela article about Korea today and the nuclear weapons. We also looked to key terms on BrainPop "FYI The Cold War". We looked to the division of Korea at the 38th parallel. Finally, we looked to violations of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, while reding about Korea, to understand United Nations sanctions.
