Lesson Topic
The History of Golf
Lesson Outline
Gwendolyn and I looked at Title IX this morning. We began researching the history of golf from various sources and we looked to two videos. We learned that golf started very long ago and became popular near the time of Christopher Columbus in the 15th Century, tracing its beginnings to Scotland. We looked at a timeline and famous tournaments and golfers. We also learned how the ball and the club evolved. We also learned that the reason for golf's popularity then was because Kings and Queens enjoyed the sport. It was banned in Scotland because it was a distraction to military preparation for war. We also learned about the purpose of dimples on the ball. We will continue in our next class.
