Lesson Outline
For our calendar activities today, we reviewed the current day, date, and discussed yesterday, today, and tomorrow. We completed our practicing day sequencing activity in which Danny was given a random starting point and the next two days, he then had to state the next day. Once he named the day, he had to search the word bank, find the correct day and write it on the line. We then looked at a calendar that tracked the weather for one month. We answered questions based on the information presented on the calendar. Next, we moved on to our economics unit. We began the topic of "Money" in our Florida Studies Weekly packet. We read that we need money to buy goods and services as well as things we want and need. We learned that we earn money by doing jobs. We saw pictures of various American currency. On the activity page, Danny was excited to complete a connect the dots picture and discover a piggy bank! We examined pictures of money and in three different photo sets of 3-4 items and Danny had to find the one that was different. We supplemented the lesson with a Brain Pop Jr. learning video about saving and spending money. We saw that people earn money doing jobs and kids can earn an allowance from their parents. We discussed that when Danny gets bigger, maybe he can earn an allowance like the girl in the video, too! We spend money to get our needs and wants and a budget helps us control our spending. The bank is where we keep our money and we may choose to share our money (donate) by giving it to people or groups to help others. We discussed the easy quiz together. We then read, Ella Earns Her Own Money by Lisa Bullard. Ella wants to buy a $20.00 soccer ball. We see her working hard, doing various jobs to add up money and save for the ball. Finally, we completed a picture sort of dollars vs. coins.
