Lesson Outline
This morning we began with our calendar review activities. We worked on yesterday, today, and tomorrow when selecting a random day of the week. We continued discussing money. We read the book, Saving Money by Mary Lindeen. We saw that we can save money at home in a piggy bank or at the bank. We can save and then decide to spend or share (donate). We also read, Spending Money, by Mari Schuh. We saw how we spend money on needs and wants. After we save a certain amount, we pay bills and decide if we have enough left over to buy something fun. We completed a picture sort of pictures for "earning money" or "spending money". Next, we looked at real coins and named each. Danny completed his Florida Studies Weekly assessment for the money concept. With a self-correction, he scored 5/5. We then moved on to the next study focus of jobs that people have. We watched a Brain Pop Jr. video about community helpers. We saw various jobs that people do to help the community and learned that we can be community helpers to by following laws, volunteering, working together to keep the neighborhood clean and safe, and helping others. The video also addressed the concepts of litter and donate. Danny scored a 4/5 on a modified easy quiz. Finally, we enjoyed the book, Places to Work, by Helen Gregory. We saw real pictures of various places to work indoors and outdoors.
