Lesson Outline
This morning we began with a review of the calendar and days of the week sequencing activities. We focused on geography in our session today. We began with a Brain Pop Jr. video about reading maps. We saw various maps such as a globe and paper maps. We can use a map to see continents, countries, cities, streets, transportation, landforms, and more. We also learned that there is a map key and symbols to represent things on the map. He scored 4/5 on a modified easy quiz. We worked on pages 28-35 in his Geography textbook. First, we looked at countries. This tasked us with finding and labeling our country, our leader, and the language we speak primarily. We compared sizes of countries, continents, and states, deciding which is bigger. We discussed our state, a state next to ours (he picked Georgia), and a state far away from ours (he chose Iowa). We also played our cardinal directions song. Finally, Danny chose a Brain Pop Jr. video about rural, suburban, and urban areas. We learned that urban areas are big cities with tall buildings, things are close together and there are a lot of people, cultures, and foods. Suburban areas are more spread out and many people travel to the city to work. Finally, rural areas have open spaces and many farm crops and livestock. Danny scored 4/5 on a modified easy quiz. Our vocabulary focus in this task was: population.
