Quizzes on Factoring trinomials
Lesson Outline
I had Hunter work 2 assessments on the computer today. They were each 5 questions, and they asked him to factor trinomials with a leading coefficient of 1, as well as a leading coefficient greater than 1. The assessments were multiple choice. Hunter factored them on paper. I loved listening to him talk through the problem, and correct himself when he knew he made a mistake. He scored 100% on both quizzes, with a little help from me.
I also had him do a quiz that involved solving a quadratic equation using the zero product property. It is simply an extension of factoring, in which he sets both factored binomials equal to zero and solves each for the variable. He needed more help with this one. I also introduced the imaginary number, i, to him. It is defined as the square root of negative 1. We will be working with it when we return from Thanksgiving.
