I had Hunter do some exercises with checks, deposits, and checkbook registers. He filled out sample checks and registers, and found the balance in an account after several deposits were made and checks were written.
We took a field trip to Publix. We walked through the store and talked about unit prices and practical things for him to purchase in the next phase of his life. Since he will not have a kitchen of his own to stock, his expenses will be down. We went up and down most of the aisles, and he wrote the price and quantity of things he thought he would purchase. Back at school, they totalled about $125, and he estimated that it would feed him for a week and a half to 2 weeks.
We also watched some short videos on Khan Academy, in which Sal gave suggestions to graduates on how to spend/save money.
