Lesson Outline
Using a globe as our visual, we discussed the difference between globes and atlases, the job of cartographers and Continental Drift Theory. This included introduction of the the terms Pangaea, Plate Tectonics, Mt. Everest and Mariana Trench. We then transitioned to current events and CNN for Kids. Elle requested in the three minutes we had remaining to watch the legendary School House Rock cartoon, "I'm Just a Bill." I was happy to oblige.

Elle came in at 9:00AM today amidst a flurry of activity with her mom, her adorable dog, Teddy and a bag of greasy McDonald's food. It took her a while to then get settled into class as she spent the first 10 minutes consuming her McDonald's breakfast. This combined with the fact that it's Friday and that Elle's family is leaving for TX tomorrow through next week may have adversely impacted Elle's ability to focus and stay on task today. When instructed to take some notes, Elle would only write the term and had difficulty following through on writing down (penmanship was quite messy today, too) the definition and really listening. Despite today's issues with focus and attention, Elle is a sweet, polite young lady who is a pleasure to know and to teach.
