Session Date
Lesson Topic
Chemistry / Physical Science
Lesson Outline
First session:

Topics in physical science were explained and related to chemistry and physics. The laws of motion were explored. Important concepts were defined. An introduction to vectors was given. The difference between distance and displacement was explained and some sample problems demonstrated to emphasize the difference. The importance of rates of change was explained with some examples of speed, velocity, and acceleration.

Second Session:

A review of the previous material in Chemistry was given (from Chapter 2). Some practice problems working with scientific notation and significant figures were demonstrated. Chapter 3 material was also reviewed such as defining various states of matter and working with percent by mass percentage in various substances. The rest of Chapter 3 material was covered. An introduction to Chapter 4 was then started with a brief explanation of atomic theory and the importance of working with the periodic table to find the number of protons, neutrons, and electrons in a specific element. The difference between mass number and atomic mass was explained, as well as an introduction to working with isotopes and their percent abundance found in nature. Several example problems were demonstrated on how to find both. Calculating the atomic mass of an unknown element from the percent abundance of various isotopes was also shown.
Assignment
