The homework was checked and the material from 16.3 (valence electrons and dot diagrams) was reviewed. Chapter 17 material was then covered. Sections 17.1 and 17.2 were completed with a thorough explanation of the properties of the different groups and families on the periodic table. The major topics were the alkali metals, alkaline Earth metals, transition metals, and nonmetals with an emphasis on the groups that consist of the halogens and noble gases.
