Guam
Lesson Outline
Today we learned about the island of Guam in the Pacific. It is a U.S. possession and somewhat close to the Mariana Trench (the deepest location in the Pacific Ocean.) Guam was also where the U. S. fought some intense battles against Japan during WWII. We also saw a short and fascinating National Geographic documentary on the success of film director James Cameron's efforts to reach the bottom of the Mariana Trench. This was the culmination of a 7-year project and James Cameron made exploratory history.

Lesson Comments
Our Batt scholars have been so welcoming to Amira. Several of them stopped into our class today to welcome Amira and to get better acquainted with her. Vlad, Taylor, Sam and Abby all stopped by to speak with Amira today. Amira is somewhat shy. She asked me if I would have lunch with her today so she could show me her favorite film, "The Meg." I was happy to do so. Amira assured me that she would be joining other students in the lunch room eventually. She just wants to ease her way into it because lunch is the most awkward period for a new student. What's sweetly ironic is that Vlad came into Amira's room towards the end of lunch and watched a bit of "The Meg" with us.
