Nico read a Chinese Folktale, "Magic Spinach." He identified the main ideas and key details. He used context clues to determine the meanings of the new vocabulary words. He used
critical thinking skills to answer comprehension questions about the story.

We worked on completing math standards portions of tests. We focused on long division, multiplication of 3 x 3-digit numbers, and order of operations. Then we worked on factoring prime numbers, numeration, and solving word problems.

We worked on a 5th grade math assessment to determine where Nico needs help. We worked on PEMDAS.

Nico took a practice grammar test to check his current knowledge.

We worked on adding and subtracting fractions where we had to find a common denominator. Then we worked on dividing fractions. Next, we worked on adding and subtracting mixed numbers.

Nico finished writing his summaries. He began writing a book report for the book, "Shadow Jumpers."

We practiced strategies for multiplying and dividing fractions. Then we practiced multiplying and dividing mixed numbers. Next, we solved word problems requiring multiplication and division of fractions.

Nico read and discussed the next chapter of "Shadow Jumper," and wrote Chapter summaries.

Division of Fractions Practice and Review: Cross cancellation and simplification. Handout worksheet of 10 plus division of basic fractions practice exercises. During today's review and reinforcement session with division of fractions, Nico worked productively and diligently and demonstrated very good problem-solving skills.

We practiced converting mixed numbers to improper fractions. Then we found a common denominator to add or subtract them. Next, we reduced the improper fractions to simplest form and converted them to whole numbers.
