We worked on word problems.
1. James reviewed word patterns and was asked to write words with these patterns (ex. -oi, oy, ow, ute, ick and many more...)
2. We reviewed capitalization rules and than he was given a paragraph to copy (handwriting) and correct.
3. We revisited “arrays”, “groups of” and the number line as it pertains to multiplication and division. He was given many multiplication facts, and using cubes, he had to show the fact all 3 ways.
4. James reread the book titled, “The Egg Drop” by Mini Grey. We looked at the picture of the egg drop design from Monday and than preceded to create his egg drop protective model. We then went to the playground and dropped it from the tower on the playground. The egg did not break.
1. James read the book titled, “The Egg Drop” by Mini Grey in which an egg desperately wanted to fly. We discussed ways someone might drop an egg from the tower in the playground without it breaking. He then designed his method on paper.
2. He reviewed word patterns and was asked to write words with these patterns (ex. -oi, oy, ow, ute, ick and many more).
3. Math- I taught James how to play a math game called,”Numbskill” which works on addition math facts. We talked about "arrays" and "groups of" as it pertains to multiplication and division.
James and I reviewed the most common letter sound combinations, both vowel and consonant patterns. I introduced syllable rule #1- VC-CV. Then we read the next two chapters in his Magic School House book titled, "Magic Tree House World War at 1944." He answered a few questions about the chapter in the book's study guide.
James worked on the spelling of the months of the year and days of the week. We then read and discussed the first chapter in the Magic Tree House book on WWII followed by a chapter summary.
James came in with his arm hurting so we did very little writing. James and I reviewed the short and long pattern vowel rules. We played an interactive computer game which reviewed spelling and English rules. It also worked on comprehension skills.
