Lesson Topic
Occupational Therapy Treatment Session
Lesson Outline
Virat was seen for an one-hour after school occupational therapy treatment session. Focus of treatment was on improving his fine motor development (grasp patterns, dexterity, and manipulation), sensory processing, motor planning/processing, bilateral coordination, ocular motor skills and upper extremity coordination. Began treatment with various ocular motor activities which consisted of tracking and scanning text (letters) left/right, up/down pattern while being timed using a specific program. Virat participated well in both activities. He required moderate assistance to find hidden objects in an I Spy picture book and took approximated 4 minutes to scan text to find the alphabet in alphabetical order hidden within. We continued treatment with a timed writing exercise and a manipulation and dexterity activity to improve his refined hand skills. Virat was able to write one 5 word sentence in two minutes while using a visual timer app on OT's phone. His writing was adequate for his age. During therapy Virat worked on motor coordination via SImon Says which incorporated both asymmetrical and symmetrical body movements. Virat worked hard and had fun. Lastly, we worked on the his keyboarding skills on the computer. Virat really enjoys learning how to keyboard and continues to concentrate on the home row letters "j" and "f" as well as finger placement for the home row. Great sesssion.
Assignment

Occupational Therapy Treatment Session
Lesson Outline
Vierat was seen for an one-hour after school occupational therapy treatment session. Focus of treatment was on improving his fine motor development (grasp patterns, dexterity, amd manipulation), sensory processing, motor planning/processing, bilateral coordination, ocular motor skills and upper extremity coordination. Vierat came to this late afternoon session happy and alert. We began treatment with hand strengthening exercises in which Vierat had to find hidden objects in a resistive putty. We continued therapy with various fine motor activities to improve refined distal hand skills and to improve processing speed for this type of skills. Motor planning, bilateral coordination and upper limb coordination was addressed through various activities such as Simon Says and Basket catch game. Throughout the session voice volume was addressed with Vierat. Pretended that he had a volume knob and when his voice got "way" too loud indoors OT said we have to turn down the volume of your voice. Vierat understood and tried to modulate his volume to the appropriate level. Lastly, we worked on keyboarding using typing.com. Vierat was instructed on the home row letter "f" and "j" today. His processing speed to look at the screen and type the letter was delayed; however, this will improve with practice. His average typing speed just for these two letters was 4wpm. Great first session.
