Each artist worked on his individual mural. Then Jackson collaborated on a design that Remington created: Chicken Banana which was inspired by a song on the lower school music playlist. They decided to draw together and plan a mural. Their collaboration was harmonious, as they each shared ideas and helped each other.

The young artists worked as a team helping to finish one of the large-scale sharks created by Jackson. Remington's large-scale shark was already completed. They demonstrated team work and an understanding of lines and shading.
The lower school artists designed and colored 10 upright and 6 inverted Christmas trees. Then they had to look at the design and arrange the trees in proper order to create one large Christmas tree out of 16 smaller ones. They used creative and critical thinking and problem solving.
Each little artist decorated four blank gift bags, wrapped each of their holiday gifts in tissue paper, and then wrote out "To" and "From" for each gift.
I introduced Remington and Jackson to tessellations which are shapes that are repeated and pieced together to make a pattern that fits together perfectly. The artists will design, color, and arrange 10 upright Christmas trees and six inverted Christmas trees to create a Christmas tree tessellation puzzle. Each piece fits into a pattern creating one large Christmas tree. This project uses critical thinking and problem solving.
I taught the boys how to thread a plastic yarn needle with ribbon and yarn and showed them how to pull it through their ornament openings to make a knotted hanging string. Then we gathered and washed sticks to create a loom. The boys will be making a weaving from yarn for a holiday present.
I introduced the young artists to the Holiday Animal Heads Project. They each picked an animal head wearing a funny holiday hat. Then they had to create a body for the animal head. They could dress their animal as an elf, a Santa, a snowman, or even put their animal in holiday pajamas. This open-ended project stimulates creative and critical thinking. Then they each worked on a step-by-step drawing tutorial.
Before Thanksgiving Break, the lower school artists rolled out air-dry clay and used dinosaur cookie cutters to create ornaments. Today they painted them, and I will add ribbon to each one for them to hang.
