General presentation of the industry and its economic impact. We reviewed the number of lines, number of companies, of passengers; as well as the principal destinations and activities, and the different types of cruise ships. We also watched a video presenting the 10 biggest cruise ships in the world. During the class, Nicole mentioned that she had been on a cruise in Iceland, so her assignment for next class is a 10-15 min presentation on this cruise.
The aim of this lesson was to finish the introduction to the different departments in a hotel, with their functions, the different jobs and the way they interact together.
Learning how to set up plates, kitchen area and outside area... Nicole helped with all these aspects of the preparation for the refreshments served during the intermission of the 2020 Art and Talent Show.
Nicole pursued with the preparation of the catering for the Art and Talent Show Event. We prepared an inventory of existing supply and prepared an estimate of needs for the accountant.
Intro to the Hotel Industry - Hotel Classification
Lesson Outline
Nicole learned the different criteria to classify a hotel, as well as the way they can intersect. Nicole had to research different hotels in the area in order to find how they were categorized. She also researched the 6 and 7 star hotels around the world.
As an introduction to the hotel industry, student was able to visit and discover the ins and outs of a hotel in Palm Beach Gardens. She was also able to experience first hand examples of good and bad customer service.
