Richard used rubber stamps to practice his spelling words. We played Bingo. I had him read CVC words and CVCe words for speed. We reviewed words with mis, post, and non prefixes. He read books with words he can read.
Christopher wrote his spelling words in his journal and highlighted letters to remember. He worked on typing his script. I reminded him of sentence structure.
Today Carson and I met on teams. We discussed the concept of Greatest Common Factor with numbers first. I gave Carson the example of 24 and 36. We discussed how these numbers have common factors 2, 3, and 4, however these are not the GREATEST. Carson considered other factors and we agreed that 12 was the GCF. Then I asked Carson what if we considered 24x and 36x, in that case what would the GCF be? We determined 12x is the GCF. We applied this concept to other terms with higher powers of x. Then instead of factoring just 2 terms, we practiced factoring 3 terms. Carson did a great job. He had difficulty when I introduced negatives and he had to consider flipping the sign.
Recently Matthew and I have been discussing trig functions of acute angles. Today we talked about how we can evaluate trig functions of any angle measure. We were given a point on the terminal side of theta in standard form. Then we practiced finding the exact trig functions of theta. First I showed Matthew what to do with an example. I drew a coordinate plane, plotted the given point P. I showed him how to create a triangle and label the sides appropriately. Next we used SOHCAHTOA to write the trig ratios. While doing this, Matthew had to recall how to rationalize fractions to put them in their most simplified form. Next, Matthew practiced doing these problems on his own. He picked up on this material easily.
I substituted for Kaitlin's Civics class, but I didn't know until 30 minutes before the end of class. She didn't have her book at home, so I read the questions and looked up the answers for us to discuss.
