Survey/Inequalities
Lesson Outline
PJ and I started the class by surveying students what their favorite flavor of Jolly Rancher is. We looked up all of the flavors: cherry, grape, lemon, etc. Then we went to each room to ask students what they would choose. I had PJ practice saying, "Excuse me", and ask, "May I interrupt to ask you a question?" (PJ had the tendency to barge in and just begin talking). We were able to collect some good data with the popular answers being: Watermelon, Blue Raspberry, and N/A (either don't like Jolly Ranchers or never tried one). We went back to his room and designated a letter for each flavor C=Cherry, G=Grape, etc. Then I created inequalities that PJ had to figure out. I asked him to put a greater than or less than (or equal to) sign to make it a true statement. For example PJ had to compare C+G to O (is the sum of cherry and grape less than, greater than, or equal to orange). PJ had fun with this. It was a good way to introduce Algebraic inequalities.

Language Arts Enrichment
Lesson Outline
After reviewing Sasha's school work for the week, we tackled the phonics portion of her homework packet. Her spelling words this week include word "families" with different suffixes (act, action, acting). Sasha wrote the spelling words, wrote two sentences with example words, and read an oral reading fluency passage with the words, and answered related reading comprehension questions. Next, we practiced for the upcoming FAST test using a resource I found online. To conclude, Sasha read a Razz Kids passage from her school website about owls. I am pleased with Sasha's reading fluency.

Lesson Comments
I discovered today that Sasha doesn't understand parts of speech. When asked to underline the verb in a sentence she had no idea, even with the prompt "find the action word." We will work on this.
